Inhibitors of oncogenic mutations at the BRAF locus have improved tumor responses and survival in patients with metastatic melanoma. Treatment of metastatic melanoma with BRAF-1 inhibitors, such as vemurafenib and dabrafenib, has been associated with increased risk of development of non-melanoma skin cancers, such as squamous cell carcinomas and keratoacanthomas.
