Brachytherapy for Penile Ca

(00:02:52) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2009 Feb 28, P Wendling

Dr. Juanita Cook is a radiation oncologist at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

Brachytherapy offers an effective primary treatment alternative to penectomy for men with T1, T2, and selected T3 squamous cell carcinomas involving the penis. According to Dr. Cook, who shared her experience using the technique to treat 74 men in a poster presentation at ASCO GU, brachytherapy had a local recurrence rate of only 12% over 19 years of follow-up and a 5-year penile preservation rate of 88%.
