(00:04:00) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2008 Dec 7, S Bochert

Dr. Mary Eapen is from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mismatched umbilical cord blood is as effective as mismatched bone marrow or peripheral blood as a stem cell source for allogeneic transplantation in adults with acute leukemia who do not have a matched donor, according to an international study of over 1200 such cases reported at ASH 2008. Dr. Mary Eapen summarized the study’s findings at a press conference.
