Prophylaxis Cuts Thromboembolic Events

Dr. Giancarlo Agnelli is Professor of Internal Medicine, University of Perugia, Italy. Dr. J. Evan Sandler is Professor of Medicine and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Washington University Medical School, St. Louis.

Dr. Agnelli discusses findings of the phase III PROTECHT trial, which showed a halving of thromboembolic events in ambulatory cancer patients who received prophylaxis with nadroparin, a low–molecular-weight heparin. Dr. Sadler comments on the implications of these findings, presented at ASH 2008.
