Ofatumumab Potential in CLL
(00:03:05) Elsevier Global Medical News, 2009 Jun 5, ML Zoler
Dr. William Wierda is a hematologist/oncologist at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
Ofatumumab, a B-cell–targeting monoclonal antibody that the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the US Food and Drug Administration recently recommended for approval in patients with refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), may have potential use earlier in the course of the disease, Dr. Wierda said in an interview at EHA 2009. During the EHA meeting, he presented updated data from the pivotal trial that led to the favorable ODAC recommendation. According to Dr. Wierda, a large phase III trial comparing chlorambucil alone vs chlorambucil plus ofatumumab in previously untreated CLL patients is planned, as is a phase II trial of the drug as a single agent in early untreated CLL.
