This morning we had to tell our patient and his very supportive wife that we couldn’t do it. We could not resect his hepatic metastatic disease as planned in the OR yesterday. It had spread too far. So we stopped and closed. He's a handsome, middle-aged man with a large, loving family. His wife celebrated him every day for the past 40 years. They led a blissful life until 4 months ago when he started to suffer from right rib pain. He would cry to his beloved—mostly at night—“my ribs are killing me.”...
